India remains the fastest growing country in the world, supported by good demographics (stable labor supply), stronger institutional strength and better governance.

According to the Ministry of Finance's January 2024 Economic Review, India is currently the fifth largest economy with an estimated GDP of $3.7 trillion in fiscal year 2024, despite the pandemic, macroeconomic imbalances and problems in the financial sector that are a legacy of earlier years.

Earlier in June, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that Africa today is undergoing rapid transformation and is on the way from being the cradle of human civilisation to the land of the future, adding that India views the country as a “natural partner” of trust and respect for each other.

Speaking at the Africa Day celebrations in the national capital, Jaishankar noted that India-Africa relations were “deep-rooted” and stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had redefined India's engagement in Africa.

“As we know, Africa is currently undergoing very rapid change,” said Jaishankar. “These changes range from the cradle of human civilization to the land of the future. Building capacity, opening up markets and, above all, increasing ambition.”

He added: “India, the world's most populous country and now the fifth largest economy, sees Africa as a natural partner. Now based on trust and mutual respect, India is now focused on adding value to Africa through manufacturing, research, localization and local employment.” (ANI)
