UK and India launch joint technology security initiative

MOSCOW (ANTARA) – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy launched the new UK-India Technology Security Initiative during his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said in a statement. “A new UK-India Technology Security Initiative has been agreed, enabling important cooperation on telecoms security and enabling investment in a range of new technologies,” the office said in a statement on Wednesday.

The new initiative will renew and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership, with a focus on promoting economic growth in both countries, the statement said.

The initiative also aims to improve cooperation on critical and emerging technologies in priority sectors, the statement added.

The initiative will also set out a new approach for UK-India collaboration on key technologies of this decade, including telecommunications, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, health technology and biotechnology, advanced materials and semiconductors.

As part of Lammy's first visit to India, UK Research and Innovation and the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology also announced a new funding call of £7 million (US$9 million or around IDR 146 billion) for future telecommunications research under the Science, Technology and Indo-UK Innovation.

London and New Delhi also agreed to work more closely together to combat climate change, accelerate green energy partnerships for offshore wind and green hydrogen, and explore new opportunities for green growth, the office said.
