Mukesh Ambani, India's richest person, unveils the first 7-Eleven store in his country. Mukesh opened 7-Eleven through his company Reliance Retail, which is run by his own daughter Isha Ambani.
“The first 7-Eleven store will open in Mumbai on Saturday,” said an official statement from Reliance Retail, quoted from CNNSaturday (10.09.2021).
As India's richest person with a net worth of $99.1 billion or around Rs 1,405 trillion (Rs 14,200 at exchange rate), Ambani already has extensive business interests, spanning not only retail but also the energy sector and even telecommunications.
In addition, Reliance Retail said in its announcement that several 7-Eleven stores opened offered customers drinks and snacks according to the taste of locals.
This agreement with 7-Eleven is Reliance Retail's attempt to compete with Amazon and Walmart (WMT). Isha Ambani said Reliance Retail is proud to partner with 7-Eleven.
Joe DePinto, CEO of 7-Eleven, added that the collaboration with India will bring millions of 7-Eleven customers. Considering this country, it is one of the largest countries.
“India is the second largest country in the world and has one of the fastest growing economies. This is an ideal time for retailers,” he concluded.
Before Reliance Retail agreed to partner with 7-Eleven to take on Amazon and Walmart, it built JioMart, an e-commerce platform that can offer everything from electronics, clothing, medicines to healthcare.
