NEW DELHI: In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Riyan Parag is third in the list of uncapped players with the most runs in a single season.
Parag scored a crucial 36 in 26 balls, including two fours and two sixes, in the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. His runs came at a strike rate of 138.46.
Parag has scored 567 runs this season at a strike rate of 151.60 and an average of 56.70. He has scored four half-centuries this season and his highest score is 84*. He has scored the third most runs this season.
Yashasvi Jaiswal of RR scored 625 runs in 14 matches in the 2023 season at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61, setting a record for most runs by an uncapped batsman in an IPL season. He scored one century and five fifties, with a career-high 124.
Australian batsman Shaun Marsh, who was uncapped in 2008, is ranked second with 616 runs scored in 11 matches at an average of 68.44 and a strike rate of 139.68, including five fifty scores and a century. His highest score was 115.
Parag leads the Royals with most runs scored in a season. Jos Buttler set a record in 2022 by scoring the most runs in a single season as a right-handed batsman (RR): 863 runs in 17 matches at an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05, including four hundreds and four fifties. His highest score was 116. With 625 runs in the 2023 season, Jaiswal ranks second.
In an IPL season, Parag also holds the record for most runs scored by a batsman batting at number four or lower. The top scorer is Rishabh Pant of Delhi Capitals (DC), who scored 579 runs in the 2018 season while batting in the middle order. During the season, he scored 684 runs in 14 matches at an average of 52.61 and a strike rate of 173.60. He collected five fifties and a century that season. Pant scored 105 runs in three innings this season, batting at number three.
The Royals will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the second qualifier in Chennai on Friday to decide who will play in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday.
