According to the report, the film was coined ₹3.1 crore nett on the first day. It deserves it ₹2.5 crore nett in India on the second day, as per initial estimates. So far the film has been collected ₹5.6 crore net in India. Bramayugam had an overall Malayalam occupancy of 47.03 percent on Friday.

About Bramayugam

Bramayugam stars Mammootty, Arjun Ashokan and Sidharth Bharathan in the lead roles. The film also stars Jisshu Sengupta and Amanda Liz. Bramayugam released this Thursday. The film tells the story of a priest named Kodumon Potty, played by Mammootty.

Unlike most films, Bramayugam was presented in black and white format. Bramayugam is set in the 18th century. Apart from Malayalam, the film will also be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

Before the film's release, a lawsuit was filed against the makers for defamation of their family name by the head of Punjamon Illam, a Brahmin household in Kerala, according to Live Law. According to the website, the Kerala High Court had heard a plea under Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 challenging the name of the lead character from Bramayugam. The petitioner said that the portrayal of Mammootty's character in the film was “negative and defamatory” and would “tarnish the reputation of the family”.

The plea said: “Failure to change the name of the main character and her traditional home will cause grave prejudice to the plaintiff, his family members, ancestors and successors.” It also argued that the film's certification should be revoked, as it depicts Mammootty's character practicing black magic.

What happened after that?

According to OTT Play, the main character's name was then changed from Kunjamon Potty to Kodumon Potty. While launching the trailer of the film in Abu Dhabi, Mammootty had urged fans to approach the film with an open mind and not make any assumptions from the trailer.
