Zambia FA cancels soccer test match against India due to unavailability of players | football news

NEW DELHI: Three days after confirming their availability for an international friendly against India, the Football Association of Zambia canceled the game due to a lack of players.
India’s men’s national team was scheduled to take on leaders Zambia in Doha on May 25.
“We regret to inform you that our efforts to secure our professional players for the friendly against India scheduled for May 25, 2022 have proved futile.
“Most of the players’ season finals happen just ahead of schedule, making it virtually impossible to get to camp,” Zambia FA general secretary Adrian Kashala wrote in his letter to his Indian counterpart Kushal Das.
The game was part of India’s preparation for the upcoming finals of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, which are scheduled to take place in Kolkata on June 8.
The India senior team is ranked 106th in the FIFA rankings, 19 places behind the 87th African nation.
News of the cancellation came barely a few hours after the All India Football Federation issued a press release confirming the game.
“All India Football Federation confirms Blue Tigers friendly against Zambia on May 25 in Doha,” the AIFF said in the press release.
The Blue Tigers have been camping since April 23 – first in Bellary and then in Kolkata, where the national team is due to play two more friendlies – one against a combined All-Star XI from the I-League and the other with the Bengal Santosh contingent trophy
The Blue Tigers previously played ATK Mohun Bagan in a friendly on May 11, which they lost 2-1.
The Asian Cup Qualifiers final round will be played over three matchdays on June 8, 11 and 14, with the group winners and top five runners-up teams earning a ticket to the main tournament in China, which is scheduled to start on June 16 next year.
