Ahead of his visit, the Prime Minister said the summit would give the United States (US), Japan and Australia an opportunity to review the progress of the group’s initiatives and discuss the situation in the crucial Indo-Pacific region.

9:52 am: Today I am traveling to Japan with Secretary of State Penny Wong for the Quad Leaders’ Summit. I am honored to represent Australia at this important forum. “I look forward to meeting Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, US President Biden and Indian Prime Minister Modi,” said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

9:35 a.m.: Just arrived: India reports 2,022 new COVID-19 cases, 2,099 recoveries and 46 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total number of active cases stands at 14,832. The daily positivity rate is 0.69 percent, says the Union Ministry of Health.

9:00 o’clock: Congratulations to all ASHA staff on receiving the WHO Director-General’s Global Health Leaders’ Award. ASHA staff are on the front lines of health care and have played a key role in the country’s response to the prevention and management of COVID-19, says Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

8:38 am: Meanwhile, PM Modi on Monday congratulated ASHA workers on receiving the Global Health Leaders’ Award from the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). He said they are at the forefront of the campaign to ensure a healthy India.

“I am delighted that the entire team of ASHA staff has been recognized with the WHO Director-General’s Global Health Leaders’ Award. Congratulations to all ASHA employees. They are on the front lines to ensure a healthy India. Their dedication and determination is admirable,” he tweeted.

7:50 am: Closer India-Japan cooperation is crucial in the post-COVID world. Our nations are firmly committed to democratic values. Together we are important pillars of a stable and secure Indo-Pacific region. I am also glad that we are also working closely together in various multilateral forums, writes PM Modi in a comment in a Japanese newspaper.

Since my time as a Gujarat CM, I have had the opportunity to regularly interact with the Japanese people. Japan’s developmental strides have always been admirable. Japan is collaborating with India on key sectors like infrastructure, technology, innovation, start-ups and more, he adds.

7:45 o clock: Wrote a commentary on the vibrant relations between India and Japan. We live a partnership for peace, stability and prosperity. I am following the journey of our special friendship as it completes 70 glorious years, says PM Modi.

7:40 am: The Indian community of Japan has made pioneering contributions in various fields. They have also stayed connected to their roots in India. I thank the Indian diaspora in Japan for the warm welcome, PM Modi tweeted.

7:37 am: After arriving in Tokyo, PM Modi also interacted with some people from the Indian diaspora. He was greeted with chants such as “Har Har Modi”, “Modi Modi”, “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai”.
