RIAU24.COM – The popular short video sharing platform TikTok has overtaken the tech giant Google as the most popular website of the year, it said in a report.
According to a report by the IT security company Cloudflare, the viral video app got more hits than the US search engine, reports the BBC.
The rankings show that TikTok ousted Google from the top spot in February, March and June of this year and has been in first place since August.

In 2020, Google took first place, and a number of other sites including TikTok, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, and Netflix all made it into the top 10.
According to reports, one of the reasons Tiktok’s popularity is believed to be because the Covid-19 pandemic has locked people down, leaving people stuck at home looking for entertainment.
The social network, which belongs to the China-based company Bytedance, now has more than a billion active users worldwide, and the number is rising.

In June 2020, the Indian government banned the popular TikTok short video app amid border tensions with China.
