The ‘tried’ relationship between India and Maldives is a ‘force of stability’: EAM


Foreign Minister S Jaishankar described the “time-tested” relationship between India and Maldives as a “force for stability” in the region and said on Saturday the two countries’ shared responsibility was to nurture and strengthen it.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Jaishankar also said bilateral ties are poised for a quantum leap to touch the lives of people in the two countries like never before.



“This is a partnership that addresses common challenges. She is a force for stability in the region. It is our shared responsibility to nurture and strengthen them,” said Jaishankar, who arrived here earlier in the day as part of his five-day visit to two nations, the Maldives and Sri Lanka to explore opportunities for further expanding bilateral ties with the to explore two of India’s most important maritime neighbors.

The Maldives is one of India’s key maritime neighbors in the Indian Ocean region, and bilateral defense and security ties have seen an upward trend in recent years.
