The Lollapalooza music festival makes its debut in India

Legendary global music festival Lollapalooza is set to make its Indian debut in January next year, organizers announced on Wednesday.

The two-day musical extravaganza will be held in Mumbai on January 28-29, entertainment and ticketing platform BookMyShow (BMS) said in a media statement.

BMS said it will headline Lollapalooza India as a promoter and co-producer for the Indian edition of the festival alongside global producers Perry Farrell, WME and C3 Presents.

Ashish Hemrajani, Founder and CEO of BookMyShow said they are proud to bring the music festival to India.

“BookMyShow is proud to bring Lollapalooza to India – becoming the eighth country and fourth continent to do so. With a mix of some outstanding Indian talent and global artists coming together on the same stage, we expect nothing short of magic,” Hemrajani said in a statement.

The annual Lollapalooza music festival, established in 1991, is synonymous with alternative lifestyles, music and culture around the world.

For 31 years, Lollapalooza has traveled the world, with seven locations on three continents hosting the event annually. Everyone feels at home at Lollapalooza, a festival that celebrates the culture of music with a focus on inclusivity and unique experiences, the publication says.

After many years as a touring festival, Lollapalooza found its home in Chicago, USA and has grown into annual editions in various culturally rich countries including Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France and Sweden with more than 66 editions of the festival to date, before it comes to India in 2023, it said.

Perry Farrell, Founder of Lollapalooza, said they are excited about the Indian edition of Lollapalooza.

“The music of India is transcendental, it pulls our mind east. Lollapalooza is a tool for unity, peace and education that uses the universal languages ​​of music and art to find common ground. You can be excited, and we’re just as excited,” added Farrell.

This music festival carries the legacy of changing the course of alternative rock music on the global stage. Lollapalooza is a melting pot of countless genres, including pop, rock, metal, punk rock and hip-hop, as well as indie, electronic dance music (EDM) and techno, the publication said.

Charlie Walker, Partner, C3 Presents said they look forward to introducing Indian and Asian fans to this music festival.

“Lollapalooza has always been about pushing boundaries, musically and geographically. We are excited to introduce Indian and Asian fans to a whole new festival experience, which has been a significant rite of passage for millions of music fans around the world for more than three decades,” said Walker.

Lollapalooza India aims to bring together music lovers of all genres, entertainment enthusiasts, a global and Indian audience in search of unique, one-of-a-kind experiences on par with international standards.

Open to over 60,000 fans daily, the inaugural Lollapalooza India will feature four stages with over 20 hours of unforgettable live music performed by some of the biggest names globally and locally.

Registrations for the India edition will continue live From today until July 31, fans can register for this musical extravaganza. Limited early bird tickets for pre-registered users go live on August 1st and start at Rs 7,000.

According to the press release, the star-studded line-up for the first-ever edition of the festival in India will be announced later this year.
