The Indian blockbuster “RRR” storms to the top of the Netflix charts

Viewers around the world are loving Netflix’s Indian blockbuster RRR most-watched non-English film which was recently made available worldwide.

The Telugu production – dubbed in Hindi on Netflix – tells a fictional story loosely based on two real-life revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (NT Rama Rao Jr.) as they traverse India fighting the British Raj after a girl was kidnapped from her village.

“RRR” features prominent Telugu actors Charan and Rama Rao alongside Hindi film stars such as Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt. After an initial theatrical run in March, the film was added to Netflix, where it quickly climbed into the streaming platform’s top five titles last week and resonated with fans for its anti-colonial message.

The film, whose title is short for Rise Roar Revolt, features fantastical action sequences, musical numbers, as well as unrealistic moments, from screaming in a tiger’s face and dancing against British nobility. It’s exciting and fun to watch, fans say.

“I’ve been in RRR for 24 minutes and I’m both crying AND yelling.” one person tweeted. “This is what superhero movies should be: completely unrealistic people… in environments that are completely saturated with color.”
