Created on the initiative of Christophe Jaffrelot, a political scientist specializing in South Asia, and Anubandh Kate, an Indian engineer, the France-India Forums are a new place to talk about India in France, whose first webinar conference will be held on January 26 ., 2022, on the occasion of Republic Day.
This space is forfriends from India“: Individuals and professionals, students, civil society actors, entrepreneurs, journalists, researchers, teachers and artists … and aims to be a living platform that should not be reserved for founders.
Anubandh Katereachable by phone, she introduced us France – India forums.
lepetitjournal.com: What are the goals of the Franco-Indian forums?
Anubandh Kate : Above all, we want to talk about India differently and give India more visibility in the media and in the French public. We want to defend an open vision of society that adheres to democratic values and individual freedoms.
Today, these values, enshrined in the constitutions of France and India, are threatened by forms of exclusion based on racial or religious identities and ideologies. We believe it is essential to take action together, not only through the political prism, but also in a social and cultural dimension.
In a more distant destination, we would also like to be able to talk about France in India.
Their first webinar will be on January 26th. Can you tell us more?
In fact, the first event of the France India Forum takes place Wednesday 26 January 2022, on the occasion of Republic Day, which celebrates the enactment of the Indian Constitution of 1950, a symbolic date! We have chosen the hot topic Challenges for NGOs in India. Several NGOs active in this field will take part and the discussion will be moderated by Christophe Jaffrelot. The event is open to everyone and we hope it will interest the readers of the small newspaper, even though it will be a bit late in India.
Will others follow?
Absolutely. This webinar kicks off a series of monthly events: February’s covers the Freedom of Speech in India and those of March Elections in uttar pradesh.
Then of course we also hope to be able to organize physical events. The France India Forums will live on a websiteand we plan later to start blog posts and testimonials to keep that dimension of sharing that we hold dear…
How did this new initiative come about?
The France India Forums grew out of discussions with Christophe Jaffrelot, French political scientist specializing in South Asia and author of numerous books on political life in India. For my part, before the launch of the France-India Forum, I had taken part in the organization of an online summit on India, the EU-India Summit, ahead of the annual Europe-India diplomatic summit. The aim of this event was to allow members of civil society in Europe and India to share and discuss their knowledge. It inspired me a lot!
Who manages the France India Forums?
Since then we have been joined by a team of French and Indian volunteers including Ranjit Singh, Deputy Mayor of Bobigny, journalist Dominique Hoeltgen and many others… The project is supported by a college of reference figures, all friends of India and France and on committed to the foundation of a charter of human values.
Once again, this is a space open to all, so don’t hesitate to contact us if you’d like to join us!
For our readers residing in France: Les forums France – Inde also organizes an Indian film club that organizes film screenings at the premises of the Malakoff associative library. Launched in 2020, this film club aims to show the diversity of cultures, languages and cinemas of India in France.
