The Cricket World Cup final is a huge disappointment for India

Cricket is to India what football is to France. It's almost a religion and the Indian National Cricket League is one of the most watched in the world. Our young budding journalist gives us his take on the game…

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, the final of the Cricket World Cup took place between the Indian national team and the Australian national team. The Cricket World Cup takes place every four years. The next one will take place in South Africa in 2027.

Ten teams took part in this thirteenth World Cup, which took place in India from October 5 to November 19, 2023.

The final took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat and brought an economic boon for the city.

This World Cup is held in T50 format, meaning each of the teams plays 50 overs (Sleeve). The last game almost lasted eight hours.

The captain of the Australian team, Pat Cumming, who won the toss at the start of the game, decided to go with “Bowling” (to throw it).

Therefore, the Indian team started the game (we call it the opening game) by “batting” (hitting the ball with the bat). Rohit Sharma And Shubman Gill, Indian players known for their “batting”, showed a lot of energy until Shubman Gill lost his wicket in the fourth innings, which led to his retirement. This discouraged the Indian team.

Virat Kohli entered the field to replace Shubman Gill. He tried not to lose his wicket and scored 46 runs along with Rohit Sharma.

But in the ninth over (innings), Rohit Sharma lost his wicket while trying to hit the ball outside the boundary (this helps in gaining maximum runs).

These two lost wickets decided the game in Australia's favor.
At the end of the time allotted to the batsmen, the Indians had scored 240 runs.

The Australian batsmen needed to score 241 runs in 50 innings to win the game, which they did in 43 innings.

The Indian bowlers still took 4 wickets from the Australian batsmen (which gives extra points) but it wasn't enough to win.

The Australians won the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
It was a long game. I think India could have won if our team hadn't lost nine wickets and the Indian players had controlled their shots better.

And yet the Indian team was the favorite because the players were at home and knew the pitch well. But the Australians adapted well to the local conditions and kept their spirits high even after losing three wickets in a row.

I am very disappointed with the results of the Indian team as it has been 12 years since their last win. But I have a lot of respect for Virat Kohli, who is a good player. However, in this last game it wasn't enough.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was present, congratulated the winners on the social media match.

Our young journalist wasn't the only one disappointed: on social networks, many young people are promising to stop watching cricket… and start playing football 😉
