The Archies Teaser: Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda make a slick debut in Zoya Akhtar’s Netflix film

All ’90s kids can prepare for a nostalgic ride when Archie Andrews and friends return, but with a twist. The Archies universe gets one Indian adaptation which is directed by Zoya Akhtar. The film features an ensemble cast including debutants Agastya Nanda (Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson), Suhana Khan (Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter) and Khushi Kapoor (Sridevi’s daughter). The first look of the film was released by Netflix on Saturday.

Netflix shared the teaser on Twitter and wrote: “The sun is out, the news is in! Get to know your new friends. We present to you the cast of The Archies directed by the fantastic Zoya Akhtar.” The Archies is meant to be a musical set set in the ’60s.

All three youngsters look like their comic book counterparts, but with noticeable improvements. Like Veronica, Suhana sports long black hair while Khushi sports bangs. Agastya didn’t have Archie’s famous red hair, but he appeared to have curled his tresses in the style of the character with a slight tinge of red.

The film’s official logline reads: “A musical experience brimming with youth, rebellion, friendships, first loves and all young adulthood still promises to offer something for every generation.” We can’t wait to see the new kids on the block!” The announcement video has a music track by Ankur Tiwari playing in the background.

Suhana’s acting debut has long been rumoured. She first spoke about her ambitions in a 2018 Vogue interview. “I don’t think there was a moment when I made up my mind. Ever since I was young I’ve been doing all these accents and impressions. But my parents didn’t realize I was serious about acting until they saw me perform for the first time. I played Miranda in a school play of The Tempest,” she said.

The Archies began production in April and producer Reema Kagti shared a list from day one of filming, writing on Instagram: “Archie’s filming begins, Tiger Baby’s first solo production #partnerincrime @zoieakhtar @Netflix.”

Zoya Akhtar previously said that the comic was part of her childhood and adolescence. “I’m super excited to have the chance to bring The Archies to life. It was a big part of my childhood and youth. The characters are iconic and loved around the world, which is why I’m a bit nervous too. I have to make sure the film fuels the nostalgia of a generation that grew up with the comic and yet resonates with today’s young adults,” Akhtar said in a statement.

The Archies, starring Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda, will stream on Netflix in 2023.
