Supreme Court dismisses plea seeking directions to frame guidelines to “protect” Hinduism in India

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea seeking direction to the Center to frame guidelines for the “protection” of Hinduism in India.

A bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said the Supreme Court was not inclined to entertain a petition containing such a prayer.

The top court referred to the prayer in the petition seeking to direct Indian government authorities to frame guidelines to protect Hinduism here.

“Someone will say: Protect Islam in India. Someone will say: Protect Christianity in India,” remarked the bench, which also included Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Ahsanuddin Amanullah.

It was a hearing of a plea filed by a man based in Uttar Pradesh who appeared in person to argue his case.

When the petitioner referred to the syllabus, the court said it is for the government to decide the syllabus.

The board noted that the petitioner could not say what he believed should be done by others.

“You did something, you made something, you can spread it. Nobody stops you. But you cannot say that everyone should do that,” the top court said while dismissing the plea.
