Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have confirmed the first cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
The first case identified was a passenger from a North African country, while the Emirates News Agency said a woman arriving in the United Arab Emirates from an African country via an Arab country was the country’s first case.
The woman was also fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and is in isolation, WAM reported. People who have been in contact with him are also isolated and he shows no symptoms.
The Saudi press agency said the kingdom’s first case had been discovered in a Saudi passenger and that he was isolating himself along with those who had come into contact with him.
“An epidemiological investigation has been launched and the case has been quarantined where accredited health procedures are followed,” said SPA.
A health official for the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health has asked people to both receive doses of COVID-19 injections and travelers to adhere to quarantine and testing protocols upon arrival.
Saudi Arabia has eased travel restrictions because of the pandemic.
Travelers from six countries India, Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, Brazil and Vietnam can now arrive in the Kingdom without having to spend 14 days outside of those countries before entering Saudi Arabia.
