Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized the formation of a new defense alliance between Australia, Great Britain and the United States (USA), also known as AUKUS, as well as a four-way security dialogue between the USA, Japan, India and Australia (Quad).

According to Lavrov, AUKUS and Quad are intended to undermine the longstanding universal format of cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region under the auspices of ASEAN. He revealed that one of the most fashionable trends today is what is known as the Indo-Pacific strategy, which the US invented.

“All of this follows the line of erosion of the universal format in the Asia-Pacific region, which has existed under the auspices of ASEAN for the past few decades,” Lavrov said in a speech on October 29, 2021), quoted on the website of the Russian news agency, TASS.

France decided to withdraw its ambassadors to Australia and the US after announcing the cancellation of the submarine sales contract.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison denies France’s allegations that his country lied about its plans to terminate the treaty. Morrison claims to have raised concerns about the deal a few months ago.
