Badminton News: Andhra Pradesh’s Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated Indian badminton player Kidambi Srikanth on Wednesday (29.12.), Who became the first player in the country to win a silver medal at the recent World Championships in Spain.
Jagan announced the award with a cash bonus of Rs seven lakh and five acres of land in Tirupati to start a badminton academy, an official press release said.
Srikanth, who paid a courtesy call to the chief minister in the ministry office, has worked as assistant collector.
On this occasion, Kidambi Srikanth expressed his pleasure at meeting the Prime Minister, who had convinced the sports star of all the help.
“I thank the Chief Minister for allocating the land,” said Srikanth.
The player went on to say that he would start a world-class badminton academy. Srikanth said the athletes are pleased with the special attention from the state government and that he will strive to win more tournaments and bring good luck.
Two weeks ago, Srikanth successfully won a historic silver medal at the BWF World Championships in Huelva, Spain.
Former world number 1 Srikanth became the first Indian player to win silver in men’s singles at the World Badminton Championships, with Prakash Padukone (1983), B Sai Praneeth (2019) and Lakshya Sen (2021) each taking bronze .
In the final in Spain, India’s mainstay in the final, which lasted 43 minutes, was beaten by Loh Kean Yew from Singapore with 21:15, 22:20.
