Ranbir Kapoor: Sanjay Dutt is Thanos of India | Hindi Film News

On July 19, Team Shamshera – Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and director Karan Malhotra – met fans at a mall in Delhi and discussed the film. During the press conference, Ranbir Kapoor reminisced about the making of Sanju and how Sanjay Dutt motivated him to make an action film while shooting Barfi.

RANBIR ON PLAYING SANJU ON SCREEN: “DREAMS COME TRUE”
Ranbir – who had Sanjay Dutt posters in his room growing up – recalled having to recreate one in particular while filming Sanju (2018). The poster in question featured Sanjay Dutt in a still from the film Aatish (1994). Ranbir explained, “I think he (Sanjay Dutt) was shooting in Mauritius and his hair was flying… that’s the poster. When I was shooting Sanju, the first thing the art director asked me to do was recreate that shoot because she wanted to replace my face with his for this poster. It was so surreal because it was the poster I grew up with on my closet. And suddenly it was my face in this pose on the wall. When you see the second scene of Sanju, you can see this picture on the wall. It means that in life you should always dream because dreams do come true.”

“SANJAY DUTT IS LIKE THE THANOS OF INDIA”
Ranbir said: “When I started my career, I trained at Sanju Sir’s gym. Sanju Sir came down the stairs and just watched me lifting weights. One day he called me and said: “Yaar, tu do saal se aa raha hai, teri body waisi hi hai. Tu sukhda ka sukhda hai”, and then he made another joke – “Tu abhi Barfi kar raha hai, agli film kya karega? Ladoo karega? Peda karega? Kuch achchi action film kar”. I think he was trying to inspire and motivate me. Coming back to Shamshera, when you have a villain like him in the film – he’s like the Thanos of India – as an actor it’s an occupational hazard for you. You have to build your body on that at least a little, because I have to hold my own against him.” He added: “Aaj kal Actors ko Actor Nahi – Actor aur Athlete Banna Padta Hai. It has become so challenging now.”

When asked what he and Sanjay Dutt love about each other, Ranbir said, “Ek hota hai love but I’m obsessed with Sanjay Dutt.”

‘DAD HAS ME HELD – ‘TERI FILM CHOICES EKDUM BAKWAAS HAIN’
When asked if Rishi Kapoor had seen parts of Shamshera, Ranbir replied, “Papa ne Karan ke saath Agneepath mein kaam kiya tha. This film brought him a lot of fame and he was very pleased with the effect of the film. When I signed this film, he was very happy because he always complained about my choice of films. He used to say, “Teri film selection ekdum bakwaas hain. Tu aisi film banata hai, that doesn’t reach the masses.” Unfortunately, he hadn’t seen the trailer or the poster for the film, but I know he’s out there somewhere, smiling proudly at me.”

“YEH 100 CRORE or 200 CRORE-WAALI FILMS KA PAISA DIRECTOR AUR ACTOR KE JEB MY NAHI JAATA”
As questions continued to surface about box office earnings, Ranbir clarified that actors will not get a share of the $100 million in earnings. He said: “Yeh joh padhte hain na aap papers mein – 100 crores and 200 crores – yeh kissi ke jeb mein nahi jaata producer. Director and actor ko kuch nahi milta.”

Karan Malhotra, the film’s director, said, “Duniya my teen log hain jinko lagta hai yeh hamare jeb mein jata hai – media, buaji aur padosi.”
