Police arrested 5 Indians who escaped health quarantine

TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com – Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, Tangerang, arrested five foreigners (WNA) from India who did not follow the quarantine process upon arrival in Indonesia.

Polda Metro Public Relations Director Jaya Kombes Pol Yusri Yunus said the five foreigners had the initials SR (35), CM (40), KM (36), PN (47) and SD (35). The five were arrested on Monday (April 26th, 2021).

Indonesian citizens (WNI) and foreigners who come from India have to be quarantined for 14 days after a mutation case of the coronavirus, namely variant B.1617, which is now widespread in India.

“We named five people as suspects,” said Yusri, who was accompanied by Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Director Kombes Pol, Adi Ferdian, at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

According to Yusri, the five Indian citizens were arrested for failing to comply with the health quarantine that they were supposed to undergo upon arrival in Indonesia.

Yusri stated that on April 21, 2021, they used an Air Asia aircraft with flight number QZ 988 from India to Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

“As soon as they got off the plane, there were several Indonesian citizens who really were help so they can escape the quarantine, “said Yusri.

Since the five people did not follow the self-quarantine, they were arrested by the police on the same day but in different locations.

The suspects were charged under Article 93 in conjunction with Article 9 Paragraph 1 of Law No. 6 of 2018 on Health Quarantine and / or Article 14 Paragraph 1 of Law No. 4 of 1984 on Infectious Disease Outbreaks.

“The sentence is one year in prison,” he said.
