Ong / Teo admits they were not affected by Indonesia’s withdrawal from the World Cup

Badminton News: The withdrawal of the Indonesian team has no impact on the men’s doubles of Ong Yew Sin / Teo Ee Yi. For independent couples, the challenge remains the same at the World Championships that started yesterday in Huelva, Spain.

The ninth seeded and number 12 worldwide pair, who received a bye in the first round, will likely face 39th place India Attri Manu / Reddy B. Sumeeth in the second round tomorrow.

If they win, they will likely take on India’s top pair and eight-seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty (world number 9) in the round of 16.

They could face third seeded Lee Yang / Wang Chi-lin in the last eight unless their compatriots and 14th seeded Goh Sze Wei / Nur Izzuddin Rumsani beat the reigning Olympic champions again.

They previously defeated the Taiwanese couple in the second round of the Indonesia Open in Bali last month.

However, Yew Sin does not look beyond the quarter-finals for the time being.

“The draw looks tough even though there are no Indonesian players. In fact, we don’t have her in the way, so her withdrawal makes no difference to us, ”said Yew Sin.

“The competition in men’s doubles is so intense that we cannot highlight a single pair as a favorite.”

Yew Sin said the unset pair would move up on the occasion of this season.

“A couple is not dominating this season. Every tournament presents a different challenge and whoever uses the opportunities well wins.”

Other Malaysian couples who also got a bye in the first half were Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik (4), Goh V Shem / Tan Wee Kiong (10) and Sze Fei / Izzuddin.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalists Aaron / Wooi Yik are likely to face Zhang Nan / Ou Xuan Yi from China, while V Shem / Wee Kiong will face Hiroki Okamura / Masayuki Onodera from Japan. Meanwhile, Sze Fei-Izzuddin will have to beat Scotland’s Alexander Dunn-Adam Hall to advance to the third round.
