Olympic Games 2036. Mexico gives up organizing the event

Mexico will forgo organizing the 2036 Olympic Games, the president of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) announced, leaving the field for now to India, the candidate against Poland, Turkey and Indonesia.

“We spoke to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and found that the competition is very tough.”Maria José Alcala told the Mexican press on Tuesday, without giving further details.

Mexico announced its candidacy in October 2022, eager to return to the Games 54 years after those in 1968. His Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard confirmed that Mexico was there “A sports power that will host the World Cup in 2026”together with the United States and Canada, “the only country that has welcomed it three times”after 1970 and 1986.

Mexico's candidacy, approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was the only one in the running at the time. India, which has never hosted the Olympics, has since strived to become the fourth Asian country to receive the honor after Japan, South Korea and China.

Turkey, Indonesia and Poland are the other countries that have so far announced their candidacy for 2036, knowing that the next three editions will take place in Paris this summer, Los Angeles in 2028 and Brisbane in 2032.
