KOMPAS.com – As of May 22, 2021, the number of Indians infected with black fungus or mucormycosis is 185 people. The number has now reached more than 11,000 cases.

Not finished with black fungus, the Indian government announced another outbreak, namely white and yellow fungus infections.

Now doctors in Vadodara, India reported 8 cases of a new fungal infection called aspergillosis.

Reported Times of India, Saturday (May 29th, 2021), aspergillosis has similarities with a black fungal infection. The same goes for people who have just recovered from Covid-19.

On Thursday (May 27, 2021) Vadodara reported 262 cases of black fungus and eight new cases of aspergillosis. The 8 patients infected with aspergillosis were hospitalized.

Aspergillosis is a disease caused by infection with the Aspergillus fungus that affects the airways such as the lungs. People with weak or weakened immunity can become infected.

However, there was never any record of a Covid-19 patient associated with aspergillosis.

“Aspergillosis is not as deadly as a black fungal infection, but it can be deadly,” said the expert.

The increase in fungal infections in Covid-19 patients has been linked to steroid use and impaired immunity.

Unsterilized water for hydrating the oxygen supply is also believed to be responsible for the increasing number of fungal infections in India.

Experts in India believe that the irrational use of steroids in the treatment of Ovid-19 is one of the main reasons behind the rise in black fungus cases.

Therefore, healthcare professionals are cautioned to use steroids with caution and not in excess.

Recognize aspergillosis

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), aspergillosis is an infection caused by the Aspergillus fungus.

Aspergillus mushrooms generally live indoors and outdoors.

Most people inhale Aspergillus mold spores on a daily basis, but they do not cause symptoms.

Well, people with a weak immune system or lung disease are at high risk of contracting the Aspergillus fungus.

When a person is infected with Aspergillus and has aspergillosis, they usually develop an allergic reaction and infection of the body organs, including the lungs.

Detected early on, the only way to treat the infection is by taking medication. The treatment for aspergillosis is the same as for black and white mushrooms. In severe cases, when the infection spreads to other parts of the body, the person will need surgery.
