Nizamuddin Dargah lights up on Diwali | Delhi News

New Delhi: Religious festivals are not all special celebrations of a particular community. Driven by these sentiments, Nizamuddin Dargah is providing a beautiful example of religious harmony on Diwali. “For four years, non-Muslim followers of Kwaja Nizamuddin Awliya have been lighting lanterns in the dargah before Diwali,” said Altamash Nizami, a member of the dargah committee. “This is a unique example of religious harmony.”
The resting place of the Sufi monk has always attracted people of different religions. “Not only during Deepavali, people of different religions come here to express their love for Kwaja Nizamuddin Awliya with their festive sentiments,” Nizami said. “Even during Holi, events are organized here to attract people of different religions.”
The dargah is lit by chiras all year round and the addition of thias with lights on Diwali is a different scene, Nizami said. “It is a way for followers to express their love for the saint,” Nizami added.
A day before Deepavali, many non-Muslim devotees who come to Dargah with their martyrs told TOI that they did not want to be named because their love for Nizamuddin was personal. However, they added that the visit to the dargah was not about religion. “It’s about peace that is not everywhere, but here. It’s just for experience – it’s an indescribable feeling,” said one of them.
A Hindu spectator, lighting a clay lamp, said, “The richness of the Ganga-Jamuni Tehsip is mixed with the echoing voices of the Qawwal praising Krishna and Hazrat Ali. In Nizamuddin the light shines on everyone.
