Netizens react to a 1-1 draw between Bangladesh and India

A 10-man team from Bangladesh led India to a 1-1 draw in the opening game of the 2021 SAFF Championship on Monday. India’s skipper Sunil Chhetri scored the first goal of the game after receiving a pass from Udanta Singh in the 27th minute. However, Yeasin Arafat came back with an equalizer to help Bangladesh get on par with India. Arafat’s goal came 74 minutes after he equalized with a brilliant header and brought Bangladesh back into play.

‘How long Mister Stimac?’

Internet users have now flooded the social media timeline and trolled the national federation for not being able to create the right “ingredients” needed to win internationally. Social media users also took the opportunity to beat up Indian national team head coach Igor Stimac, who is under great pressure to deliver a trophy this year.

The Bangladesh draw is not good news for the team led by Sunil Chhetri, who are currently the top-ranked team of any South Asian football association. India had entered the competition as the favorite to win the tournament as it has been producing resources in recent years since the development of the Indian Super League, one of the top football leagues in all of Asia.

Bangladesh currently tops the SAFF points table with 4 points. The men in green have played two games so far and won 1 while another ended in a draw tonight. Nepal is second in the table with 3 points thanks to the victory against the Maldives on October 1st. India are in third place with just 1 point after Bangladesh drew at the Maldives National Football Stadium. The Maldives and Sri Lanka rank fourth and fifth, respectively, as they were unable to open their accounts in the ongoing competition. India will play their next group game against Sri Lanka on October 7th. The final of the SAFF Championship 2021 is scheduled for October 16.
