MPL says goodbye to Indonesia after laying off 100 employees, here are their profiles

TEMPO.CO, jakarta – Online gaming and tournament platform provider, Mobile Premier League (MPL), has ceased operations in Indonesia. This Indian company ceased operations in the country after reportedly failing to live up to the founder’s expectations.

“Sorry, MPL Indonesia is currently no longer accepting new users. Thank you for your support and attention,” Mobile Premier League wrote on its official website on Wednesday 1 June 2022.

Previously, MPL had laid off 100 employees in Indonesia. On their social media accounts, MPL Indonesia urges users to open and redeem the application immediately Reward that have been collected.

“Immediately open the MPL application to withdraw your winning diamond and follow the instructions in the application. Contact for more information,” the following statement was quoted from Instagram account @mpl_id.

So what does the MPL profile look like?

MPL was founded in September 2018 by its three founders namely Sal Srinivas Kiran G, Shubh Malhotra and Shubham Malhotra. MPL is also known as Galactus Funware technology. The company is active in the eSports, games, iOS and sports sectors.

MPL has been operating in Indonesia for about three years. The game and tournament features that MPL offers Reward which can be exchanged for e-money balances, namely Gopay and LinkAja. Before the closure, MPL hosted more than 70 games and tournaments.

MPL also participated in the Esports President Cup 2020 as one of the participating branches. Back then, MPL held a Rp. 250 million Fruit Darts tournament and there were 50,000 entries.

MPL has the status unicorn in his home country. According to various sources, the total funds raised by MPL currently reach $375.5 million for five rounds of funding. Funding was last raised from the Series E round on September 15, 2021.

To date, MPL has 19 investors with nine major investors. Major investors include Base Partners, Susquehanna International Group (SIG), Go-Ventures, Accrete Capital, Moore Strategic Ventures, Telstra Ventures, Play Ventures, Legatum and RTP Global.

On February 28, 2022, MPL acquired the German gaming community platform GameDuell. Previously, MPL had also acquired two tarnishing digitally from India, namely GamingMonk on April 20, 2020 and Crivize Technologies on May 8, 2019.
