The yearly ranking of the site Animation career reviewTHE reference in the sector, strengthens the position of the two Montpellier schools in the international gratin. So theESMA (High School for Artistic Professions) wins the 8th World level, closely followed by ArtFX who climbs the 12. Square.

Established in 1958, ESMA is an arts and crafts school with campuses in Lyon, Montpellier, Montreal, Nantes and Toulouse. The school offers a master’s degree in CG animation and special effects, which takes three years to complete. The program focuses on “artistic and technical knowledge” while teaching students to master 3D software used by animation studios, production companies, and video game companies.
Students learn animation techniques and everything related to the production phases of an animation project, including pre-production (storyboard, layout, screenwriting…), production (3D modeling, rigging, compositing, 3D animation…) and post-production (lighting). , rendering, effects…). The fourth year of the fourth year of study is entirely dedicated to the creation of an animated short film. The students produce their final short films in groups of four to seven students.

The Master CG Animation & FX can be completed in English at ESMA’s Lyon campus. Graduates of the program enjoy a 93% employment rate within six months of graduation and a 100% employment rate in just nine months.

ArtFX, School of Digital Arts, Montpellier, Lille, Paris, France

ArtFX, School of Digital Arts, was founded in 2004. The school, which welcomes almost 500 students, is one of the few European institutions specializing in both composition and film techniques.
The courses include a Master in New Cinema Technologies, a Master in Animation: 2D and 3D, a Master in CGI and Visual Effects, a Master in Video Games (Game Art or Game Design) and a Master in Programming. A professional certificate in video game and VFX programming is also available.
Highlights of all programs include a progressive and innovative curriculum, access to high-tech equipment and membership of a strong professional network. Students also benefit from a main campus in Montpellier, a city known as the “French tech metropolis” thanks to “an innovative entrepreneurial ecosystem open to Europe and the world”.

All programs include workshops, internships, a presentation to a jury of professional artists, meetings with professional artists, and the production of a 2D or stop-motion animated short film. Students will also create a demo reel and develop and direct an animated short film.
The Master is awarded by the RNCP and recognized internationally by professionals.
