Macron discusses Indo-Pacific deal with Indian Prime Minister

France called the partnership between the US, UK and Australia a “stab in the back”.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PARIS – French President Emmanuel Length characters spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday about cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. The discussions take place as France faces deteriorating relations with Australia and the US.

Relations between France and Australia escalated after Australia terminated an agreement to order French submarines valued at $ 40 billion (around 570 trillion rupees). Last week France called back its ambassadors from the United States and Australia after Australia canceled a submarine deal with France.

At the time, Australia also announced that it would give up a contract with the French company Naval Group, which it had concluded in 2016 for the construction of conventional submarines. Rather than continuing to work together, Australia said it will build at least eight nuclear-powered submarines using US and British technology once the three countries agree on a security partnership.

France called the trilateral partnership a slap in the back, while China warned that the Indo-Pacific security partnership between the US, Great Britain and Australia could intensify arms competition in the region.
