KOMPAS.com – A video has been circulating on social media showing a doctor eating cow dung and claiming it is good for your health.

In a video upload to one of the accounts Instagram, The doctor in the video, called a pediatrician in the Karnal region, Haryana, India named Manoj Mittal, takes the manure straight from the cowshed in rather large chunks.

He took a little of the clod of earth and then ate it.

He explained the benefits of consuming cow dung. The explanation he gave was Indian.

A lecturer at the Veterinary Faculty of Nusa Cendana University, Kupang, Dr. Yeremia Yobelanno Sitompul said that it is not safe to eat cow dung due to safety concerns.

“If you’re asking if it’s safe, it definitely isn’t,” said the doctor, who is famously called Yeyes.

It reminds you, shit, sapi contains a lot of bacteria.

“It contains several types of bacteria that are dangerous to our digestive system, from Ecoli, Salmonella, Campylobacter and others,” he explained.

So when cow dung is ingested by humans it is very risky to cause digestive problems.

Yeyes said cow dung is dangerous even if it’s just exposed to the surface of human skin

“If it comes into contact with the skin, it should of course be cleaned immediately, because there are many bacteria that can opportunistically infect the skin. When the skin is injured, the potential is swallowed even in the smallest of quantities, ”says Yeyes.

“If these, for example, swallowed, the flow of which meets the hands, then enjoys the fingers, continues to eat something without washing our hands, bacteria will eventually get into our digestion,” he continued.

Since the video was circulating in India, according to Yeyes, it could be related to the beliefs of the local community.

In India the cow is a sacred animal.

“It’s more about their trust, yes, if something about cows is good,” said Yeyes.
