In parts of Howrah district of West Bengal, particularly in the minority-dominated subdivision of Uluberia, protests against recent controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad have been observed since midday on Friday. Rioters blocked National Highway-6 in the Salap and Uluberia belts in Howrah district for hours, causing vehicles and trucks to be stranded in an area about 10 km. Even ambulances transporting critically ill patients were stuck for hours because of roadblocks.
