Badminton News: With his historic silver medal at the World Cup last week in Huelva, Spain, the Indian Kidambi Srikanth jumped four places and took his place in the top 10 in the latest ranking of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
The 28-year-old Guntur-born was awarded 10th place in the world rankings for his last finish in Huelva, Spain.
Kidambi Srikanth arrived here on Tuesday to welcome flowers to the Pullela Gopichand Academy. The world championship silver medalist said he was playing the best badminton of his life, beating his four Super Series titles in 2017.
While youngster Lakshya Sen, who also secured his first bronze medal at the World Championships in his first season at the event, two places in 17th place.
In the quarter-finals of HS Prannoy in Huelva, Spain, he improved six places to 26th place in the world rankings.
In the women’s singles, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu remains in seventh place, while Saina Nehwal, who has recovered from various injuries, is in 25th place in the world rankings.
The men’s doubles Chirag Shetty / Satwiksairaj Rankireddy lost one place to 10th place, while Ashwini Ponnappa / N Sikki Reddy returned to the top 20 in the women’s doubles.
