Amit Shah arrived in Bengaluru on Monday night amid speculation that it could finally result in a long-hyped change of prime minister and state cabinet.

The BJP senior leader was to attend a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Basavaraj Bommai for BJP ministers, MLAs and MPs at his residence, and chair separate meetings of the BJP State Core Committee, party officials and various party units.

The meetings were planned to set strategies for the 2023 assembly elections and to chart possible changes in government. But after lunch at Bommai’s headquarters, meetings with party units were abruptly cancelled.

A visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Bengaluru on Tuesday to provide an indication of the BJP’s strategy for the 2023 assembly elections came to nothing as he scheduled meetings with the BJP state core committee and party leaders planned were cancelled.

Incidentally, several BJP leaders, including former CM BS Yediyurappa, party leader Arun Singh and President Nalin Kumar Kateel, said on Tuesday that there would be no change of CM in Karnataka. Yediyurappa added that there could be changes in the state cabinet in a few days.

For days there has been speculation – also fueled by the ranks of the BJP – that the BJP is aiming for a complete change of cabinet in Karnataka, as in Gujarat.
