Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan has been promoting his upcoming film Vikram at the Cannes Film Festival. He revealed the film’s NFT and also presented the trailer. On the sidelines of the party, he revealed that it was he who came up with a plot idea that director Lokesh Kanagaraj later expanded into a full-fledged action entertainer.
He also clarified that the upcoming film’s story is completely different from his 1986 blockbuster Vikram. “Except for one incident (there is no other connection between the two films). I made up a story for the first Vikram, which they thought was too headstrong. It didn’t have enough songs. It moves in mysterious ways. Unpredictable, wasn’t good. When Lokesh came back and said I wanted to do something, call it Vikram, not necessarily in that genre but in that kind of action, I casually told him that story. And then I asked him to tell his story. He said let’s stop this. i like what you said And he developed the story,” Kamal told The Film Companion.
However, he also noted that his contribution to the development of the script ends there. “He (Lokesh Kanagaraj) took it in a different direction to his own style. It’s a quest for the protagonist, you’ll see after the first scene: ‘Wow, how is he going to take it forward?’ Very Quentin Tarantino-ish,” added Kamal.
Vikram is a multi-star action drama. It also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil. The filmmakers also revealed that actor Suriya played a key cameo in the film. “Suriya made an amazing performance at the last minute. That should take the story a bit further, probably in part 3,” Kamal said.
Vikram hits theaters on June 3rd.
