This was the third straight draw between the two teams in the ISL, extending the SCEB’s winning streak to six games.
Tomislav Mrcela (37th) opened his account in the ISL with a header for SC East Bengal, before Alvaro Vazquez (44th) equalized with a well-executed shot just before the break.
Alvaro Vazquez appeared to have put the Blasters ahead but the referee reversed his decision and refused the goal when he whistled before the striker put the ball past the goalkeeper.
Within minutes of that incident, Prabhsukhan Gill made a decisive save, keeping Antonio Perosevic in check.
There were no chances to score in the first half until Tomislav Mrcela hit the net with his head. The central defender picked up a long throw from Raju Gaikwad and headed the ball past the goalkeeper from close range.
KBFC then lost defender Enes Sipovic to injury when he left the pitch disappointed and was replaced by Abdul Hakku.
A few minutes before half-time, Vazquez’s right footed shot deflected off Mrcela and went into the net, leveling the game.
Thongkosiem Haokip and Amarjit Singh Kiyam both received yellow cards in the first half due to weak tackles.
The second half started cautiously, both teams equalized each other and fought for momentum in the last third.
Vazquez attempted a long-range shot late in the second half but the goalkeeper blocked it. It was the Spaniard’s last contribution when Ivan Vukomanovic sent Jorge Diaz off the bench.
A second goal was not recognized by the Yellow Army in the 89th minute after Diaz appeared to have pushed a defender before heading a cross into the net. The fight ended without goals in the second half and the points were shared between the two teams.
SC East Bengal face Khalid Jamil’s NorthEast United in their next game on Friday, while Kerala Blasters FC have a tough game against reigning champions Mumbai City FC.
