Indonesia and India host a Health Business Forum

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Indian Embassy will host a Health Economics Forum in Jakarta on February 27, 2024.

In a written statement on Monday, the Indian Embassy said the forum aims to explore cooperation in health services in the pharmaceutical sector.

It was noted that many Indian pharmaceutical companies are willing to explore Indonesia as an investment destination to strengthen business in ASEAN in synergy with Indonesia's downstream policy.

There are many opportunities to promote closer health partnerships as both countries have similar experiences and challenges as developing countries with large populations, the Indian Embassy said.

It was also said that Indian pharmaceutical companies could help Indonesia reduce dependence on imports Active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), which enables improved quality of medical services at affordable prices.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said his party wants to provide high-quality and affordable medicines to the Indonesian people.

He also said that his party had studied different pharmaceutical models in different countries and concluded that India has the best model for providing quality and affordable medicines to the people.

“I have seen many models in different countries and the Jan Aushadhi Kendra model from India is the best in the world in providing quality, easily accessible and affordable medicines to the community,” said Budi.

Earlier, Budi visited Jan Aushadhi Kendras in Gandhinagar-Gujarat on the sidelines of the G20 India Summit in August 2023.

Jan Aushadhi Kendra is a government pharmacy established to provide affordable generic medicines to the public.

The aim of these pharmaceutical centers is to make high-quality medicines accessible to everyone and to ensure cost-effective healthcare solutions.

The forum will discuss, among others, the pharmaceutical regulatory and registration system in Indonesia, investment opportunities in the health services sector, the health ecosystem and the transformation towards health resilience.
