India’s home games will initially be played behind closed doors – Reuters

India’s men’s and women’s FIH Pro League games against Spain, scheduled for February 26-27, will be played behind closed doors, Hockey India announced on Friday.

The games will be played at Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

“The games will only be televised as Hockey India and the FIH have decided to hold the weekend doubles games behind closed doors for the time being, starting February 26,” HI said in a press release.

India’s men’s and women’s teams meet Spain in a home and away game on February 26th and 27th, followed by games (men’s and women’s) against Germany on March 12th and 13th.

Next, the men’s team meets Argentina in another doubles game on March 19-20.

The two Indian teams will host England on April 2nd and 3rd.

The association announced that the situation would be reviewed at the end of February for the games scheduled for March.

“Given the popularity of the sport in this region and the expected crowds at the stadium, organizers believe it would not be possible to control this number of people while adhering to all required COVID guidelines and protocols,” HI said.

The stadium is open to accredited operations personnel, tournament participants, sponsors, employees of participating organizations, delegates, and guests invited by HI and FIH only.

The games will be broadcast live on all platforms worldwide.
