The Indian Army has launched a modern messaging application called ASIGMA (Army Secure IndiGeneous Messaging Application). The new generation web-based messaging application is completely in-house and developed exclusively by the Army Signals Corps officer team.

The new ASIGMA application will be deployed on the Army’s internal network to replace the Army Wide Area Network (AWAN) messaging application that has been in use for 15 years. The application was shipped on Army-owned hardware and will be deployed to the Army from that point on, providing lifetime support with future upgrades.

The messaging application is designed to meet all the futuristic demands of the army and offers an enhanced user experience. It has a host of modern features including multilevel security, dynamic global address book, message prioritization and tracking, and options to meet the current needs of the Army.

This future-proof messaging application will meet the real-time data transmission and messaging needs of the armed forces, especially given the current geopolitical security environment. ASIGMA was developed in line with the Make in India initiative of the Government of India.

The Indian Army has been preparing for automation a lot, especially after the outbreak of COVID-19, and is taking significant steps towards paperless work. ASIGMA will continue to intensify these efforts to complement the multitude of other applications already used by the Army through its in-house army network.
