India offers scholarships and training to Indonesian youth

The Government of India also provides courses and technical training under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program.

About 20 Indian students come to Indonesia every year to study Indonesian language, arts and culture, and science and technology on scholarships, Bharti said.

There are many universities in both countries that have signed letters of intent on various student and faculty exchange programs.

“If more students benefit from cooperation in the education sector with a diverse and multicultural community environment from both countries, it will contribute to the development of both countries,” he said.

Government of India is offering 20 scholarships for students from Indonesia to pursue higher studies in Indian universities and colleges at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The scholarships are administered by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) under the General Scholarships Scheme (GSS).

The total number of ICCR scholarships awarded to Indonesian citizens from 1994 to 2021 is 384.

In the 2021-2022 academic year, 41 ICCR scholarships were awarded, he said.

The Indian Economic and Technical Cooperation (ITEC) provides short-term training for government officials from Indonesia.

Since 2007, about 900 students have visited India as part of the ITEC program.

In 2021-2022, 31 students from Indonesia have participated in the e-ITEC training course, Bharti said, adding that India and Indonesia have close cultural ties.

According to him, community relations can be achieved at the grassroots level by promoting cultural exchanges, best practices, tourism and education.
