India has one of the slowest mobile internet speeds in the world, according to a recent survey by the popular VPN brand Surf shark.

Dubbed the Digital Quality of Life Study, India ranks 59th out of 110 nations in terms of mobile internet speed and has lost two positions from last year.

For the study, Surfshark surveyed over 6.9 billion people around the world about the type of Internet services they are currently using based on five parameters – Internet affordability, Internet quality, electronic infrastructure, electronic security and electronic administration.

India ranked 47th in Internet Affordability, 67th in Internet Quality, 91st in Electronic Infrastructure, 36th in Electronic Security, and 33rd in Electronic Administration.

To put this in perspective, India ranks behind Bangladesh in terms of electronic infrastructure, ranking higher when compared to internet affordability, internet quality and electronic governance. Apparently, India’s electronic security also appears to be almost 76 percent better than China’s since last year.

According to the study, India ranks 95th when it comes to the number of users using the internet. Internet affordability has dropped 75 percent since last year, placing India in 47th place.

Today, people in India have to work 1 minute and 15 seconds more to afford the cheapest 1GB data package – 40 seconds more compared to 2020.

In terms of total points, Denmark comes first, followed by South Korea and Finland. The last nations on the list include Ethiopia, Cambodia, Cameroon, Guatemala, and Angola.
