India’s senior national team coach Igor Stimac named a line-up of 23 players for the upcoming SAFF championship, which begins October 1 in the Maldives, on Sunday. The championship finals are scheduled for October 16th. Players and coaches meet in Bengaluru on Monday and fly to the Maldives the next day. Stimac and other technical staff will join the team directly in the Maldives on the same day.
In addition to India – Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives, the other teams are in the championship. Each team faces each other once, with the two best teams moving into the final.
When announcing the team, Stimac said: “We are all looking forward to the SAFF championship as the leading football country in this part of Asia. These 4-5 games are extremely important to us as we don’t have a chance of seeing each other again until the third round of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers begins next season. These matches should therefore help us to improve our game by a few points. “
