Hyundai’s electric car is something that a lot of people have been asking for, especially since the other automakers are already rolling out electric vehicles. Today Hyundai Motor India announced that it will launch a new car in the electric vehicle segment in India, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Hyundai is already selling the Hyundai Kona electric SUV in India. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is positioned as a premium electric SUV in India. Hyundai announces that the Ioniq 5 will launch in India later this year, marking the start of the Korean automaker’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) expansion plans in the country.
Unsoo Kim, MD and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited said: “Hyundai Motor India has already committed to expand its BEV range to 6 models by 2028 and today we are very proud to announce the launch of IONIQ 5 in KJ 22 to be announced in India . IONIQ 5 will embody the innovative application of intelligent technology in mobility. »
According to Hyundai, the term Ioniq is a fusion of “ion” and “unique”. It was announced as a long-term research and development project with a focus on sustainable mobility.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is based on Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), an innovative system developed exclusively for next-generation battery electric vehicles. Thanks to the inherent modularity of Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the Ioniq 5 will feature an innovative interior and exterior design, and the interiors will feature eco-friendly materials in several places.
According to Hyundai, the E-GMP was developed on 4 main pillars.
Modularity – A single platform that can adapt to many body types, with a modular battery system and increased synergies with shared BEV components.
Reliability – The center of gravity is low, super-strong steel is used and the battery is attached at 8 points.
Ease of Use – Featuring a flat floor and flexible seating layout, as well as an innovative interior with a sliding console and sliding second-row seats.
Performance – Large battery capacity, improved handling and the ability to reach a top speed of 260 km/h.
While the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is already available internationally, it will be interesting to see if Hyundai will make any India-specific changes to the model before it launches in India.
