South African batsman David Miller is among those players who have the ability to single-handedly change the game. Having made his international debut in 2010, he has become a key part of the South Africa national team over the years. Along with the national team, he has served several franchises in various T20 leagues around the world.
In the Indian Premier League, the southpaw is often dubbed the “Killer Miller” for his more than a decade of experience and his ability to hit huge sixes. He began his IPL journey for Kings XI Punjab in 2012 and played for the franchise for seven years. He had been chosen to skipper the Punjab squad in the 2016 season. However, after the team suffered five defeats in six group games, he was dropped as captain.
Ahead of the 2020 season, Miller was sacked by Punjab Kings and joined Rajasthan Royals. After playing for the Royals for two years, he was bought by newcomers Gujarat Titans in the 2022 Mega Auction. That year, Miller recorded 481 carries in his 16 appearances with an excellent batting average of 68.71. In his 105 IPL matches to date, he’s totaled 12 half centuries and a ton and hit a total of 2,455 runs.
Today, on the occasion of his 33rd birthday, let’s celebrate David Miller’s best IPL taps:
101 runs from 38 deliveries for Kings XI Punjab vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (2013): Chasing a mammoth 190-run target against RCB at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in 2013, Miller hit a century and played just 38 deliveries on a batting average of over 265. While Punjab was three men down at 51, the pursuit expert single-handedly controlled the innings to guide his side past the winning post. His match-winning knock was decorated with 8 limits and 7 maxima.
94 runs from 51 deliveries for Gujarat Titans v Chennai Super Kings (2022): Last season, Miller hit an impressive 51-ball 94 while chasing 170 runs against defending champion CSK. His unbeaten stroke, including 8 fours and 6 sixes, helped the struggling side, led by Hardik Pandya, claim a thrilling 3-wicket victory.
89 runs of 55 deliveries for Kings XI Punjab vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (2015): In 2015, in a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Miller alone carried the trailing Punjab unit with 55 balls and 89 carries. 51 runs of 19 deliveries for Kings XI Punjab vs Rajasthan Royals (2014): Miller’s willow shone again when his side needed him most. While Punjab fell well short of the required run rate, he put on an aggressive show, scoring 51 runs in just 19 deliveries and helping Punjab reach the goal of 192 runs. He hit 6 maximums during the unbeaten tap.
