jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin or BGS alluded to data showing good community immunity in Indonesia, prompting the government to take steps to transition from pandemic to endemic.

In the meantime, the implementation of the transitional step has started after President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has been advised that the public will be allowed to remove masks in public areas.

According to BGS, data shows that several countries such as America, Japan, Taiwan and China have seen an increase in the number of new variants of Covid-19 called BA2.

BUMN’s former deputy minister said that the BA2 variant did indeed make its way to Indonesia and India.

However, according to BGS, the Indonesian government has not recorded the increase in the number of cases of the new variant in the country as it has in India.

“So the relative immunity of Indonesia and India to the new variant is relatively good,” he said in a press release broadcast on BNPB Indonesia’s YouTube account on Tuesday (5/17).

BGS went on to say that the government also conducted a survey to calculate communal immunity before the time of Ramadan 1444 Hijri. From there it was found that 93 percent already had antibodies.

According to BGS, the immunity rate then rose in a government survey ahead of the 2022 homecoming period. This raised municipal immunity from 93 percent to 99.2 percent.
