Google is giving $ 2.5 million to three Indian nonprofits working to empower women and girls

The philanthropic arm of tech giant Google Google.org on Monday donated $ 2.5 million to three Indian nonprofits to help create avenues to wealth for women and girls.

The three nonprofits are Samhita-CGF, Pratham Education Foundation and SwaTaleem Foundation, which each receive funding to scale their skills development, education and financial support projects, the tech giant said in a statement.

“We are very proud that three local recipients were selected as part of this challenge,” it continues.

The three non-profit organizations are among the 34 recipients of the Google.org Impact Challenge for women and girls from 19 countries. These were selected from 7,800 applications.

Samhita-CGF is receiving a $ 800,000 grant for its REVIVE Alliance project, which aims to provide interest-free “repayable” grants to 10,000 women who do not have access to traditional financial support systems to invest in digitization and meet their business needs.

Pratham receives $ 1 million in funding to connect more than 7,000 unemployed young women in rural areas with jobs in the beauty, health, and male-dominated auto, mechanical and electrical industries.

With a $ 700,000 grant, SwaTaleem and Humane Warriors will educate disadvantaged girls and women in rural India through a creative, low-tech platform. An app and automated audio files played on speakerphones bypass the need for the internet and give girls access to traditional subjects such as math and science, as well as socio-emotional and financial education such as opening a bank account.

Google further stated that Google.org, the Google Accelerator team, and Women Techmakers will be running a four-month global virtual accelerator program to support and drive this investment, with highly skilled Google employees providing pro bono support Includes training, networking and mentoring.

“As we continue to invest in efforts to empower women to achieve their potential and improve their lives and those of their families, communities and the economy, partnerships with organizations like these will be crucial in the variety of approaches they take and look forward to helping them where it matters most, “said Google.
