France striker Martial tells Man United he wants to leave

Anthony Martial has told Manchester United that he would like to leave, said coach Ralf Rangnick.

The French striker has moved the pecking order down at Old Trafford and has only made two Premier League starts and only four in all competitions this season.

Rangnick said he had “spoken extensively with the 26-year-old Martial” last week.

“He explained to me that he has been with Manchester United for seven years now and he feels that the time is right for a change to go elsewhere,” said Rangnick on Sunday.

“I think that’s understandable in a way. I was able to follow his thoughts, but on the other hand it’s also important to see the club’s situation. “

Martial became the world’s most expensive teenage player when United signed him from Monaco in September 2015 for a £ 36m (then $ 55.1m then) transfer that could potentially rise to £ 58m.

Martial made a memorable debut coming off the bench to score a great solo motor against Liverpool and has scored 79 goals in 268 games.

But he’s behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood on the list of players who can play as a center-forward or one of the offensive wing positions.

Rangnick said there had been no interest in Martial before the January transfer window and the player could stay at United as the team is still involved in three competitions.

“It shouldn’t just be in the interests of the player, but also in the interests of the club,” said Rangnick.

“So far, as far as I know, there has not been an offer from another club and as long as this is the case, it will stay.”

Martial last played for the French national team in September.
