First cases of black fungus related to Covid outside India

The Chilean Infectious Diseases Society reported a case of mucormycosis on Sunday, or mushroom black, associated with Covid in its territory. This infectious disease caused by microscopic fungi belonging to the Mucorales family is wreaking havoc in India, where the health situation is very tense. A similar case was found in Uruguay in a patient with a moderate form of Covid-19.

Mucormycosis is a rare complication of Covid-19 that is most common in people with immune system weakened by illness, immunosuppressive therapy or a transplantation Organ. Other fungi can take advantage of a patient’s health in order to multiply, such as Yeasts of the kind candidate and thread fungi of the genus Aspergillus, present on decaying food and responsible for respiratory diseases,Aspergillosis. These secondary infections have been occurring since the beginning of the pandemic from Covid-19, but this is the first time the country has been identified in the case of mucormycosis.

Like in India it isincident this infection is increasing in Chile. There are only a handful of cases of Variant Delta (Indian variant) in South America, especially in Brazil. In Chile, the gamma variant (Brazilian variant) circulates the most, followed by the alpha variant (English).
