LONDON, 31st May (PTI) – A British actor of Indian origin is ready for a special Bollywood wedding party, complete with a six-metre, four-tier cake and a specially designed saree, to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee outside Buckingham Palace in London.

Ajay Chhabra and his Nutkhut Performance Company have been chosen to represent the Commonwealth theme from a South Asian perspective for a major platinum jubilee competition on Sunday – one of the many highlight events over the weekend celebrating the 70th birthday of the 96-year-old monarch from the British throne.

The 51-year-old actor took inspiration from the Queen’s royal wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in 1947 for the centerpiece wedding cake, with each tier representing the silver, gold, diamond and platinum jubilees of the monarch’s reign.

“Seventy years ago my mother, then nine, welcomed the Queen to Fiji; a 10,000 mile journey led to her and three generations of women in my family making London their home,” said Chhabra, a popular stage, television and radio actress and producer of Indo-Fijian heritage.

“Seventy years later my daughter, who is now nine years old, will celebrate and participate in our section of the pageant for Her Royal Highness. That cross-generational family history lives on,” he said.

Co-created with Nutkhut Artistic Director Simmy Gupta, the wedding celebration is designed as a celebration of the universal joy of families and communities that are united through the coming together of two people.

“I was born in Wolverhampton and come from a working class background. I am honored to be invited to curate part of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant to celebrate the Queen’s 70th year on the throne. It’s such a unique and rare opportunity,” Gupta said.

“A decade ago I was invited by the Royal Household to create a play for the Ballroom at Buckingham Palace – to bring this celebration to the streets of London with a diverse group of people from all walks of life is a special moment. My grandmother would be proud,” she said.

The wedding ceremony will be performed in lavish Bollywood style by 250 artists of all ages from London, Birmingham, Leicester, Manchester, Southampton and Newcastle.

According to Nutkhut, the spirit of the Commonwealth will flow through his specially designed Platinum Jubilee saree, a key feature of the performance and made from sustainable organic fabric.

“I’m delighted to be working with Simmy and Ajay from Nutkhut. Her connection to the community and artistic vision captures the essence of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on the world stage,” said Pageant Master Adrian Evans.

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant takes place on Sunday 5th June as part of the UK bank holiday long weekend which starts on 2nd June and offers communities the opportunity to celebrate a historic milestone as Britain’s first monarch turns 70. anniversary as King celebrates service.

The four-day celebration will include public events and community activities, as well as moments of reflection on the past seven decades. Nutkhut’s wedding celebration will be a key element of the pageant, which meanders through the streets of Westminster, along the Mall to Buckingham Palace in the heart of London, telling the story of record rule and the changing society of that time.

Artists were specially commissioned to interpret various chapters of the narrative in their own unique ways, including a military extravaganza titled “For Queen and Country” and a vibrant exhibition entitled “The Time of Our Lives” featuring double-decker buses wrapped in specially designed graphics .
