Deepika Padukone says she has goose bumps as she sits on the Cannes 2022 jury: ‘Maybe I’m not giving myself enough credit’

Actress Deepika Padukone is really having a great time as she sits on the Cannes 2022 jury. The actress has been a red carpet regular at the prestigious film festival since 2017, but this year is truly special. “The festival management seems so confident in why they made this decision,” Deepika told Variety in an interview about her membership of the Cannes jury. “I sit back and sometimes think maybe I haven’t done myself enough credit. And that’s okay too, because I don’t want to feel like this great achievement or whatever. If I landed here today without realizing it, I must have done something right. And that’s why I don’t want to think too much about what made me come here.”

The actress has said she wants India to make headlines beyond that Look at the red carpet in Cannes. The actor also serves on the Cannes jury Actress and filmmaker Rebecca Hall, Noomi Rapace and Italian actress and director Jasmine Trinca, as well as directors Asghar Farhadi, Ladj Ly, Jeff Nichols and Joachim Trier. The jury decides which film wins the Palme d’Or.

Speaking of her own experience as a former model, she said: “Models have always been dismissed as people who can’t act, either you’re a model or you’re an actor and the two things can’t coexist in people’s minds. From the beginning of my journey, through my debut, to my evolution as a person, professionally and personally, I have learned from every experience.”

She has shared a new set of photos in which she is dressed in green and white polka dot station wagons.

The actor attended the inauguration of the Indian Pavilion in Cannes on the second day of the Cannes Film Festival. Dressed in a black pantsuit and statement choker, the actor spoke about Indian cinema and how the country will only go from strength to strength in the years to come.

On the first day of the festival, Deepika wore a black and gold sequined saree designed by Sabyasachi. She completed her look with a gold headband and charred eyes, and wore long earrings. Sharing photos on her Instagram page, she wrote: “The saree is a story I will never stop telling. No matter where we are in the world, he has his place,” said Sabyasachi Mukherjee…and I couldn’t agree more!” She also wore a red Louis Vuitton dress with barely-there straps and a statement neckline.

Speaking to PTI recently, Deepika said she hopes this time people will talk more about Indian cinema and less about fashion. “I hope we realize there’s so much more… Of course fashion is fun, it should be fun. And it’s also a very personal thing. But I hope that the Indian media has learned from this latest experience and realize that we have the power to actually change this narrative and speak out about what a big moment this is for India. I think what we should talk about is the celebration of India. The celebration of Indian talent and cinema,” she said.

This year, the Cannes Film Festival celebrates Indian cinema. India was chosen as the first “Honored Country” at the Marche du Cinema. On the opening day, a delegation from India led by I&B Minister Anurag Thakur walked the red carpet. The delegation includes AR Rahman, Pooja Hegde, Shekhar Kapur, among others. Besides Deepika, several other Bollywood actors are attending the Cannes Film Festival including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Hina Khan and Urvashi Rautela.
