Covid-19 hits iPhone maker in India, what is the fate of the iPhone 12?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A pair of Wistron and Foxconn operated plants in India producing iPhone May affected by Covid-19 and a total of 13 employees were infected.

May 2021, 10 Chinese engineers working at Foxconn’s Chennai facility were infected with a virus that forced them to be quarantined at a local hospital.

Foxconn disinfected the facility, but the factory continued to operate, according to Taiwan News. The same source discusses the Wistron plant in southern India, which was closed for five days after infecting three operators. The factory is located in Kolar, Karnataka State.

On Saturday, India has the second highest total confirmed Covid-19 cases worldwide, with nearly 20 million reported cases and 242,362 deaths. The only country that reports a higher number of cases and deaths is the United States.

Should the Covid situation in India stay out of control, Apple’s supply chain for its manufacturing in India will face curfews and other delays.

One of the models of iPhone made in India is the iPhone 12, which is manufactured by Foxconn’s factory in India. Other models include the iPhone XR and iPhone 11. It appears that the outbreak is currently not having any impact on Apple’s iPhone production in India.
