Coronavirus Variants And Vaccinations, Active Coronavirus Cases In India Nov 25 News: Bharat Biotech has stated in a statement that its Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin meets the WHO’s effectiveness criteria for COVID-19 vaccines for the dreaded Delta variant. It did so after the Lancet published the results of an interim study showing that two doses of Covaxin were 77.8% effective against symptomatic disease and had no serious safety concerns.

The Lancet study also found that two doses of Covaxin were 50 percent effective against symptomatic COVID-19. Bharat Biotech said these results compare well with the 65.2% efficacy versus the Delta variant achieved during controlled Phase 3 clinical trials of Covaxin in the general population.

In a statement, Bharat Biotech said: “Bharat Biotech commends the AIIMS researchers for the BBV152 study published in Lancet Infectious Diseases. These results prove the effectiveness of COVAXIN in real life.

A 50% efficacy score obtained during the highest COVID-19 delta variant wave in India in a high risk study population of doctors and nurses in a hospital setting and repeatedly challenged with high viral loads provides insight into the efficacy and effectiveness of COVAXIN.

These results compare favorably with the 65.2% efficacy versus the Delta variant obtained during COVAXIN’s Phase III controlled clinical trials in the general population. This study also shows that COVAXIN meets the WHO efficacy criteria for COVID-19 vaccines for the dreaded Delta variant. “
